FINAL RESULTS
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Junior
Paul Woodson entered the clubhouse in a career-best tie for fifth and finished the 54-hole event at two-under 214 to direct Radford men's golf to a sixth-place showing at the 23rd Annual Coca Cola Wofford Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.
The tournament was played on the par-72, 6,648-yard layout at the Country Club of Spartanburg.
Woodson wrapped up the event by carding a final-round two-over 74 and held his first day placement at fifth in a 79-player field. The score tied for the lowest of his career (Richmond Intercollegiate, 214 (-2)) and the fifth-place tie was also a career-best. It stood as his third top-10 finish as a Highlander.
“Paul's round yesterday was exceptional and the lowest of any player in the last ten years and his overall performance allowed us to be competitive this week,” commented head coach
Mike Grant.
As a team, Radford jumped two spots up the leaderboard, from eighth to sixth, by totaling 295 (+7), the third best final-round score. The Highlanders were among 15 teams competing at the event.
Senior
Lane Hite (T20) also tallied a two-over 74 on the last day to finish up at 219 (+3). Redshirt-sophomore
Weston Eklund (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) propelled seven positions up the individual standings to also finish tied for 20th with Hite at three-over.
Charleston Southern's Jacobo Pastor won the individual crown at six-under 210 and East Tennessee State defended its 2010 team title with this year's top spot, finishing at 858 (-6).
Radford concludes its 2010-11 season when it hosts the Big South Championship at The Patriot Club at Grand Harbor Apr. 18-20.
