NO. 74 MEN’S TENNIS CONCLUDES REGULAR SEASON WITH 5-2 WIN AT JMU

HARRISONBURG, Va.
– No. 74 Radford closed out its regular season with a 5-2 come-from-behind victory at James Madison in non-conference men's tennis action Sunday afternoon at the JMU Tennis Courts.

In addition to extending their school-record winning streak to 15, the Highlanders improved to 19-3 on the season.

It also marked the fourth time this season the Highlanders have dropped the doubles point and rallied for the win.

Radford's lone doubles victory came from the duo of Nick Sayer (Hong Kong, Hong Kong / Cams Hill School) and Joe Mills (Brighton, England / Cardinal Newman Catholic) on court three.

After falling behind 1-0, Radford got convincing straight-set wins from Thomas Dehaen (Zwevegem, Belgium / Middenjury) and Stijn Meulemans (Belgium / KA2 sportschool Hasselt) to grab its first lead of the match.

It was Dehaen's 15th straight win, while Meulemans extended his winning streak to 17.

With the dual tied 2-2, the Highlanders responded with singles wins from Mills, Ivan Salec (Oroslavje, Croatia / Oroslavje Secondary School) and Sayer to secure the match and comeback.

For Salec, it was his 105th career singles victory as he moved to a team best 19-1 on the spring.

JMU's only singles triumph came at the No. 4 position.

Radford, which finished second in the regular season standings, will return to action Thursday in the opening round of the 2011 Big South Men's Tennis Championship hosted by Winthrop.
