EKLUND TAKES OUTRIGHT LEAD AFTER DAY ONE OF BIG SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP

ROUND 1 RESULTS

NINETY-SIX, S.C. –
After the first round of the Big South Championship, redshirt-sophomore Weston Eklund is the outright leader with a three-under 69 and Radford is in fourth heading into day two.

The tournament is being played on the par-72, 7,118-yard layout on the Patriot at Grand Harbor.

Eklund's steady round consisted of five birdies, four spanning from holes six to ten and his birdie on 16 broke a four-way, first-place tie and allowed him to take the outright lead.

“I was proud of the way Weston played today.  He had a solid round that enabled us to be four strokes out of second.  He had a clutch birdie on hole 16 which gave him the lead and he really stepped up for us today,” commented head coach Mike Grant.

As a team, the Highlanders wrapped up the round at 298 (+10).

Paul Woodson began the day tied for first courtesy of three birdies on the first three holes.  He then converted a birdie on five, propelling to four-under.  After 18, he finished at two-over 74 and tied for 13th.

After falling behind early on holes two and three, Lane Hite countered with two birdies on five and six to shoot one-under.  Hite currently sits tied 24th at five-over 77.

Freshman Matt Harman in his first-ever Conference Championship is tied for 30th at six-over 78.

The Highlanders commence round two tomorrow morning with an 8:50 tee time.  Live scoring is available on GolfStat.
