STREAKS CONTINUE FOR HIGHLANDERS IN 7-0 BLANKING OF LIBERTY

RESULTS

BLACKSBURG, Va. –
No. 65 Radford added to its school-record winning streak with a 7-0 victory over Liberty in Big South men's tennis action Saturday afternoon at the Burrows Burleson Tennis Center on the Virginia Tech campus.

Winners of 13 straight, it was also the Highlanders' fifth consecutive shutout as they improved to 17-3 overall and 4-1 in the league.

The contest began at the RU Tennis courts with the Highlanders taking the early 1-0 lead by sweeping the doubles portion.

About 40 minutes after the singles competition began, the two teams were forced inside due to severe thunderstorms in the New River Valley.

Thomas Dehaen (Zwevegem, Belgium / Middenjury) pushed Radford's advantage to 2-0 with a quick straight-set (6-0, 6-1) win at the final singles position. It was the sophomore's 13th straight win as he improved to 16-3 on the spring.

Wins on courts two and three just seconds apart from freshmen Nick Sayer (Hong Kong, Hong Kong / Cams Hill) and Stijn Meulemans (Belgium / KA2 sportschool Hasselt) clinched the dual for the Highlanders. It was Meulemans' 15th consecutive triumph as he also recorded his 16th win, while Sayer moved to 15-3.

Igor Ogrizek (Daruvar, Croatia / Birotechnika Grammar School) charted his 15th victory of 2011 with a 6-3, 6-2 straight-set decision on court three.

Radford's final wins of the afternoon came from Joe Mills (England / Cardinal Newman Catholic) and Ivan Salec (Oroslavje, Croatia / Oroslavje Secondary School) on courts three and one, respectively. Like Dehaen and Meulemans, Salec extended his double-figure winning streak to 12, while improving to a team-best 17-1.

The Highlanders will conclude their 2011 home schedule with a 1 p.m. dual against Gardner-Webb Sunday afternoon at the RU Tennis Courts.
