RADFORD FIRES 299, TIED FOR FIFTH AFTER DAY ONE OF ODU/OBX INVITATIONAL

POWELLS POINT, N.C. – Round one is in the books at the ODU/OBX Invitational and the Radford men's golf team finished with a 299 and is tied for fifth. The 54-hole tournament is being played at the par 72, 6,535-yard Kilmarlic Golf Club.

Georgia Southern leads the 18-team field after putting together a 2-over 290. The Eagles are five shots clear of host Old Dominion and A-10 member Richmond. VCU finished with a 298 and is in fourth, one shot ahead of Radford, Elon and George Mason.

Leading the individual race after a 6-under 66 is Georgia Southern's Scott Wolfes. The 30th-ranked golfer, according to Golfstat, finished with seven birdies, including three straight (holes 14-16) on the back nine. Wolfes is three shots clear of Elon's Stuart Kaufman and VCU's Jake McNulty.

Callum Tarren carried momentum established from his career-best performance at the Highlanders' last tournament to lead the squad on day one. After making the turn at even-par, Tarren charted birdies on the 11th and 14th holes to move into red figures. The junior finished with a 72, which is tied for seventh.

One shot behind Tarren is 47th-ranked Weston Eklund. The Charlottesville, Va. native returned a 1-over 73 to the clubhouse and is tied for 13th. After opening with a birdie at the par-4 first hole, Eklund dropped three shots over the remaining eight holes to go out in 2-over 38. Eklund rebounded on the back nine with two birdies against one bogey to finish with a 1-under 35.

Matt Harman got off to a blistering start, logging birdies on three of his first four holes. The junior added another birdie at the par-5 12th, but finished with a 4-over 76 and is tied for 25th. Tanner Carbaugh and Conner Hayden carded 79s in the opening round and are tied for 53rd.
