EKLUND SHOOTS CAREER-BEST 64, RADFORD IN SECOND AT ODU/OBX INVITATIONAL

ROUND 2  |  INDIVIDUAL

POWELLS POINT, N.C. –
Weston Eklund was in the zone Monday, torching the par 72, 6,535-yard Kilmarlic Golf Club with a career-low 8-under 64 to lead the Radford men's golf team in the second round of the ODU/OBX Invitational. Eklund is tied for the lead heading into tomorrow's final round, while the Highlanders carded a season-best 5-under 283 and are in second.

Starting on the 10th hole, the 47th-ranked golfer in the nation opened with two pars before he caught fire. A birdie at the par-5 12th hole ignited a seven-hole stretch where Eklund logged six birdies against one bogey to make the turn at 5-under for the round. After a par at the 395-yard first hole, Eklund birdied the par-3 second hole to move to 6-under.

The Charlottesville, Va. native's birdie barrage was not over as he birdied Nos. 5, 8 and 9 against one bogey at No. 7 to finish at 8-under for the day and 7-under (73-64) for the tournament.

Callum Tarren is tied for 20th at 148 (72-76). The junior went out in 3-over for his first nine holes and dropped two more shots at Nos. 6 and 7. However, Tarren ended his round with back-to-back birdies at holes 8 and 9 to close his round at 3-over-par.

After dropping two shots on the first hole of the day, Matt Harman played his final 17 holes in 1-under par to finish with a two-round total of 148 (75-73) and is tied for 20th. Tanner Carbaugh tied his career-best with a 1-under 71 in the second round and is tied for 29th at 150 (79-71). Freshman Conner Hayden is tied for 50th at 154 (79-75).

Georgia Southern leads the 18-team field at 577 (290-287). Radford is five shots behind at 582 (299-283), while tournament host Old Dominion is in third at 583 (295-288).

In the individual race, it is a battle between the 30th-ranked golfer in the nation (Scott Wolfes of Georgia Southern) and Eklund, who both sit at 7-under-par.

The Highlanders, the Eagles and the Monarchs tee-off together at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow. Follow the final round action here to see if Radford can come from behind and earn its first team victory of the season, and if Eklund can capture his first individual title of his phenomenal career.
