TOM GALBRAITH NAMED ASSISTANT ATHLETICS DIRECTOR FOR ATHLETICS COMMUNICATIONS

RADFORD, Va. – With over 20 years of experience in media relations, Tom Galbraith was named Assistant Athletics Director for Athletics Communications Wednesday by Radford University Director of Athletics, Robert Lineburg.
 
We are extremely excited to have Tom, his wife and three daughters join the Radford University family,” expressed Lineburg. “During the course of his career, Tom has risen to the top of his field, working all three levels and at a conference office. We are thrilled about the knowledge and energy he will bring to the position.”
 
Galbraith comes to Radford after working with the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) staff since the spring of 2010 as Assistant Commissioner for Communications. He was responsible for coordinating and directing the public and media relations efforts of the league office. Prior to arriving at the SWAC office, Galbraith spent five years as the sports information director (SID) at Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Ala.
 
Along with serving on the athletics department's senior staff, Galbraith will oversee communication for the Highlanders' 19 Division I varsity sports, including the department's website, publications and media relations. He will also serve as the primary contact for men's soccer, men's basketball, and men's and women's tennis.
 
A Newell, Iowa native, he worked as the SID for three years at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa from 2002-05. Prior to Loras, he spent two seasons as the SID and head men's golf coach at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Ore.
 
Galbraith earned his bachelor's degree with majors in communication studies and sports administration from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa in 1992. While at Simpson, he was a member of the men's basketball and golf teams earning the men's golf most valuable player award in the 1990-91 season.
 
After graduating from Simpson, Galbraith earned a master's degree in Education Administration from North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D. in 1994. While at NDSU, he served as a graduate assistant in the sports information office for the Bison.
 
He landed his first SID job out of graduate school at Whitworth College in Spokane, Wash. and moved to an assistant role at Longwood University in Farmville, Va. before leaving the profession to pursue a doctorate at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. Galbraith is currently ABD in pursuit of his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from UVA.
 
Galbraith and his wife, Janelle, reside in Radford, Va. and are the proud parents of three daughters (Elena, Olivia, and Mia).
