2012 Hall of Fame Induction: Duane Filchner

A four-time first-team all-conference performer, Duane Filchner was selected Big South Player of the Year in 1994, the first Highlander to earn the honor.

Radford's all-time leader in batting average (.389), RBI (189) and runs scored (198), Filchner also ranks among the school's Top-10 in home runs (34 / 4th), including three against Richmond on April 20, 1995. Later that season, Filchner became just the second position player (at that time) in school history selected and signed in the MLB First-Year Player Draft by the Oakland Athletics in the 23rd round.

Filchner led a program in its early stages to two of its finest seasons. In 1993, he posted a .401 average and helped Radford to its only Big South Championship Game appearance.

In 1995, Filchner hit .389 with 15 home runs and drove in 51 runs - powering the Highlanders to one of their most prolific offensive seasons and a program-best 30 wins - a record that stood until 2011.

During his three years in Oakland's organization, Filchner was a two-time minor league all-star.

He and his family currently live in Northampton, Pa.
