RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's golf team will be gunning for its third consecutive Top-5 performance when the squad tees off in the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina at the par 72, 6,004-yard Greenville Country Club. The first and second rounds will be contested on Monday beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The 54-hole event wraps up with the final 18 on Tuesday.
“We are excited to get back on the course after being off for two weeks,” head coach Jeff Beeler said. “I look forward to seeing how we stack up against a very strong field.”
This is the 12th year the Pirates have hosted their home event in the fall. Along with host ECU and the Highlanders will be defending team champion Maryland, Augusta State, Boston College, Brown, Coastal Carolina, Elon, Georgia State, High Point, Longwood, Marshall, UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, Old Dominion, Samford, Southern Miss, Western Carolina, William & Mary, and Yale.
The Chanticleers and the Pirates come into the tournament ranked No. 33 and No. 34, respectively, in the latest Golfweek standings released Thursday, Oct. 4.
Sophomore Alexandra Austin will be playing in the top spot this week. Austin posted her sixth career Top-10 showing in her last tournament—the Highlander Invitational—carding a 151 (77-74). Playing No. 2 for RU this week is Hayley Hammond. The Mooresville, N.C. native tied for sixth with Austin two weeks ago at Draper Valley to secure her first Top-10 as a Highlander.
Paige Reese will be playing in the third spot for Radford after tying for 11th last time out. The junior from South Hill, Va. finished just one shot out of the Top-10 at 153 (77-76). Fellow classmate Kirsty Condon will compete at No. 4, while freshman Katie Parrott rounds out the lineup at the fifth spot.
