MEN’S GOLF ADDS BREDIGER, WATTS FOR 2013-14

RADFORD, Va. – Radford University head coach Mike Grant announced the signing of Nick Brediger and Korey Watts to national letters of intent Wednesday morning and will compete for the men's golf team beginning in the fall of 2013.

“With this class, Radford continues to attract the top talent in Southwest Virginia,” Grant said. “I am thrilled Nick and Korey have decided to play for us because both have the ability to make a positive impact on our program immediately!”

NICK BREDIGER
6-3  |  Roanoke, Va.  |  Cave Spring

Brediger comes to Radford after a spectacular career at Cave Spring. While with the Knights, Brediger garnered first-team all-district, all-region, and all-state honors in his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. The Roanoke Times' Timesland Golfer of the Year finished runner-up in the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Group AA state tournament in 2010 and 2011.

The 2012 River Ridge District Player of the Year recorded a third-place showing at the Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA) Junior Stroke Play last summer by carding an even-par 213 (73-69-71) at Laurel Hill Golf Club in Lorton, Va. In Brediger's junior year, he won the River Ridge District Tournament title with a 67 and followed that performance with a 72 a week later to claim the Region IV championship.

Brediger leaves Cave Spring holding the school record for the lowest round shot by a CSHS golfer. He blistered the Hidden Valley Country Club trek in Salem, Va. with a 6-under-par 65.

KOREY WATTS
5-10  |  Buchanan, Va.  |  James River

Watts will enter his freshman campaign with the Highlanders' men's golf team with an equally impressive résumé. All his success culminated in a phenomenal senior season where Watts won the Roanoke Valley Golf Junior Hall of Fame championship for the second-straight year and the Roanoke Valley Golf Hall of Fame men's championship this past summer, becoming the first golfer to be crowned champion in both events in the same year.

Continuing his sizzling summer stretch, Watts finished runner-up at the VSGA Junior Match Play and qualified for the Virginia-West Virginia and Virginias-Carolinas team matches. Carrying momentum into his final season with James River, Watts jolted out of the gates with a win at the prestigious Heritage Invitational by carding a 68. He followed that performance by blazing the field at the Bob McClelland Metro (70-67).

Watts finished his career with the Knights as a three-time Pioneer District champion, the Region C champion (senior year), and a three-time All-Group A selection (runner-up – freshman year). In his 81 events (excluding high school competition), Watts has 47 Top-5's to his credit and an eye-popping 19 wins. Watts also made it to the “Sweet Sixteen” of the 97th VSGA State Amateur.
