EKLUND FINISHES FIFTH, MEN’S GOLF 10TH AT WEXFORD

RESULTS

HILTON HEAD, S.C. –
Weston Eklund capped the spring opener in a tie for fifth place in a field of 89 players and Radford men's golf placed 10th in the Wexford Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon.

Eklund carded a final-round 74 en route to his second-best showing of the year and finished with a 222 (+6), just three strokes out of runner-up honors.

Overall, the Radford foursome recorded a 921 and was four strokes out of seventh place.

Callum Tarren wrapped up the event in a tie for 14th place courtesy of a 10-over 226.  He set new career-lows for 18-hole (73), 36-hole (149) and 54-hole (226) scores and his finish also stood as a career-high.

Finishing 44th, Tanner Carbaugh charted a 233 and was two-under on par-5's throughout the tournament, the second-best tally of any player in the field.

Damon Stephenson of Georgia State took medalist honors at even-par 216 and led his club to the team title as well, finishing with an 892 (+28).

The two-day event, which featured 17 teams, was held at the Wexford Plantation and played on a 6,828-yard, par-72 layout.

The Highlanders are back on the course Feb. 26-28 in the Wendy's Challenge.  The College of Charleston will host the event and will again be played on the Links at Stono Ferry.  Last year, Radford garnered a third-place showing in the 54-hole competition.
