RADFORD WINS CONFERENCE OPENER AND BLANKS SPARTANBURG METHODIST

CLINTON / SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After defeating Presbyterian 5-2 in its conference opener, Radford blanked Spartanburg Methodist, 9-0, in non-conference men's tennis action Saturday afternoon.

With their two wins, the Highlanders have won five straight to improve to 5-1 on the young season.

In their morning dual with Presbyterian (4-6), the Highlanders grabbed the early 1-0 advantage by winning two of the three doubles matches. Shortly after Radford's top duo of Nicholas Sayer and Thomas Dehaen won 8-4, Stijn Meulemans and Igor Ogrizek clinched the point with an 8-4 decision of their own on court two.

The Highlanders, who have won 48 of their last 53 matches against league competition, got straight-set victories from Joe Mills (6-0, 6-2), Sayer (6-0, 7-6), Meulemans (6-4, 6-4) and Patrick O'Keefe (7-6, 6-4).

Presbyterian's only points came from Grayson Mills and Andrew Brigham at positions two and four, respectively.

Against Spartanburg Methodist, the Highlanders dropped just 12 games combined in the nine matches played.

O'Keefe and Randall Carter each recorded 6-0, 6-0 victories, while Dehaen, Alex Metzner and Javier Waase dropped just one game in straight-set wins.

Mills also had no trouble in his singles match on court two, before Radford cruised in the doubles competition.

Radford will continue its lengthy road trip with a 1 p.m. match at Gardner-Webb tomorrow afternoon.
