MEN’S TENNIS CRUISES PAST SOUTH CAROLINA STATE, 6-1

RADFORD, Va. – Radford opened its five-match homestand with an impressive 6-1 victory over South Carolina State in non-conference men's tennis action Tuesday afternoon at the RU Tennis Courts.

The Highlanders, who have won 48 of their last 50 home matches, move to 9-3 on the Spring, while the Bulldogs fall to 10-3.

“I'm really proud of the way we performed this afternoon against an extremely talented and well-coached team,” said Radford head coach Mike Anderson. “This is a very good win and will help us as we prepare for a tough conference match this weekend.

With the doubles portion tied at one win each, Radford's top duo of Nicholas Sayer and Thomas Dehaen won the final two games to edge Peteris Vinogradous and Artemiy Nikitin, 8-6, and clinch the team point.

The Highlanders also got a doubles victory from Stijn Meulemans and Igor Ogrizek on court three.

Shortly after Sayer put Radford up 2-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 decision at the top singles spot, Meulemans and Patrick O'Keefe recorded straight-set decisions of their own to clinch the match.

The Highlanders also got singles triumphs from Dehaen and Ogrizek on courts four and two, respectively.

South Carolina State's lone win came from Artemiy Nikitin, who held off Joe Mills in three sets.

The match was halted for 45 minutes due to a thunderstorm.

Radford will continue its five-match homestand Saturday with a 12 p.m. dual against Coastal Carolina.
