SAYER AND MEN’S TENNIS HOLD OFF JAMES MADISON, 4-3

RADFORD, Va. – With the match tied 3-3, sophomore Nicholas Sayer grinded out a three-set win at the top singles position to lift Radford over in-state foe James Madison, 4-3, in non-conference men's tennis action Wednesday afternoon at the RU Tennis Courts.

Ranked 78th in the country, Sayer improved to 24-7 on the campaign with his 11th straight win.

The victory was the Highlanders' 50th in their last 52 home matches, while moving to 11-3 on the season.

For just the third time this spring, the Highlanders swept the doubles portion to take the early 1-0 advantage. Shortly after Radford's top duo of Sayer and Thomas Dehaen recorded their second straight 8-1 win, Igor Ogrizek and Stijn Meulemans clinched the team point with an 8-4 decision on court three.

The tandem of Joe Mills and Patrick O'Keefe were just as impressive at the No. 2 spot, defeating Ryan Pool and Florent Sentenac, 8-2, for their first win of the season.

Not long after Meulemans gave the Highlanders a 2-0 lead with a straight-set decision, 6-1, 6-1, James Madison responded with wins from Hugo Ramadier (6-2, 6-2) and Tommi Nissinen (6-2, 6-2) at positions five and six, respectively, to tie the match.

Dehaen, who dropped his last outing, bounced back and put a crucial point on the board for Radford thanks to a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Bertrand Moulin.

With the Highlanders clinging to a 3-2 lead, the Dukes' Pool picked up a two-set (7-6 (5), 6-1) win on court two to tie the match, 3-3.

Radford will continue its homestand and conference play this weekend when Campbell (3/31) and Winthrop (4/1) come to town.
