MEN’S TENNIS BLANKS LEAGUE RIVAL WINTHROP, 7-0

RADFORD, Va. – Radford extended its winning streak to six with a 7-0 blanking of Winthrop in Big South men's tennis action Sunday afternoon at the RU Tennis Courts.

Winners of 52 of their last 57 matches against league competition, the Highlanders improved to 13-3 overall and 5-0 in the conference.

For the fifth straight outing, the Highlanders grabbed the early 1-0 advantage by winning the doubles portion. After Winthrop was forced to default on court three due to a limited lineup, Radford's No. 2 team of Igor Ogrizek and Stijn Meulemans secured the point with an 8-6 victory over Guy Kubi and Yuta Kirokawa.

Radford's Nicholas Sayer and Thomas Dehaen rallied from an early break and edged Nadav Ruppin and Dylan Comerfield, 9-8 (8) at the top doubles position to finish off the sweep.

After winning the tightly contested doubles competition, Radford cruised in singles play, winning four of the five matches in straight sets, including Joe Mills' second consecutive, 6-0, 6-0 decision.

The Highlanders' also got singles victories from Sayer (6-2, 6-3), Ogrizek (7-5, 6-1), Meulemans (6-1, 3-6, 10-0) and Dehaen (6-1, 6-0).

Winthrop (9-12, 2-3 Big South) was also forced to default at the No. 6 singles position.

The Highlanders and Eagles have met in the last six Big South title matches, with Radford winning four of the last five.

Radford returns to action Tuesday afternoon with a 2:30 p.m. dual at East Tennessee State.
