NO. 75 MEN’S TENNIS CONCLUDES REGULAR SEASON WITH 5-2 WIN AT LIBERTY

LYNCHBURG, Va. – In addition to putting the finishing touches on another perfect Big South slate, No. 75 Radford concluded the 2011-12 regular season with a 5-2 win over Liberty in men's tennis action Thursday at the Hershey Tennis Courts.

With their fourth unbeaten (7-0) league campaign in the last seven years, the Highlanders improve to 17-5 overall and will enter next week's Conference Championships as the top seed.

Radford's Nicholas Sayer and Thomas Dehaen put their club one win away from the doubles point with a convincing 8-3 victory on court one. The remaining doubles matches were tightly contested as both required tiebreakers to decide. It was Joe Mills and Patrick O'Keefe's 9-8 (2) decision at the No. 3 spot that proved to be the difference and gave the Highlanders the early 1-0 lead.

In singles, straight-set wins by Stijn Meulemans (6-1, 6-1) and Dehaen (6-3, 6-2) extended Radford's advantage to 3-0.

Not long after Liberty (15-6, 3-3) put its first point on the board, Mills (6-3, 6-3) clinched the match for the Highlanders with a two-set win of his own at the final spot.

Radford also got a singles victory from O'Keefe who held off Mandeep Yadav in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 10-7.

The Highlanders will enjoy a week break before beginning their title defense at the 2012 Big South Men's Tennis Championships April 19-21 in Asheville, N.C.
