RADFORD, Va.
– Radford Softball was held to three hits by Virginia Tech's Jasmin Harrell as it fell 5-0, Tuesday afternoon from RU Softball Field.

After surrendering two first-inning singles, Harrell retired 16 straight batters before a seventh-inning leadoff single. She finished with four strikeouts and did not walk a batter for the Hokies (35-16).

Seniors Hannah Ojeda and Vicki Madden, along with freshman Micalah Sacre recorded the lone hits for the Highlanders (28-15).

Back-to-back two-out home runs by Courtney Liddle and Kelsey Mericka was all the offense Harrell needed as the Hokies grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first.

The Highlanders recorded a pair of singles in the bottom half of the inning, but stranded both runners and did not threaten the rest of the contest.

Virginia Tech added three more in the sixth for a 5-0 cushion. A single off the end of Marra Hvozdovic's bat landed just inside the leftfield line, plating Kat Banks with the first run. Two more scored with two out on a pair of errors during the same play.

Sacre started and went 5-plus innings in the circle. She allowed three runs on three hits with five strikeouts and five walks. Freshman Emily Norton closed out the final two innings, allowing a hit and two unearned runs. She struck out three, walked one and hit a pair of batters.

Mericka recorded two of the Hokies' four hits.

Radford steps right back onto RU Softball field tomorrow, April 25 when it hosts North Carolina in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
