MEN’S TENNIS ANNOUNCES 2012-13 SCHEDULE

2012-13 RADFORD UNIVERSITY MEN'S TENNIS SCHEDULE

RADFORD, Va. –
In addition to eight nationally-ranked opponents and five NCAA participants from this past spring, the 2012-13 Radford men's tennis schedule will also feature dates with some of the top teams in the Atlantic Region, head coach Mike Anderson announced Tuesday.

“This season's schedule will be very challenging, but at the same time will prepare us for our conference tournament,” commented Anderson, who has been named Big South Coach of the Year a record six times in his 16-year career.

The fall schedule will consist of appearances at the Duke Fab 4 Tournament, UVa's Ranked Plus One and ITA Regionals.

Following almost two weeks of preseason training in Florida, Radford will begin its spring campaign in Lakeland against Indiana (1/11) and Louisville (1/12), which finished 2012 ranked 22nd and 34th, respectively.

The Highlanders will continue their season-long seven-match road trip at William & Mary on Jan. 20 before capping it off with their conference-opening weekend at Campbell and Coastal Carolina Feb. 23 & 24.

Winners of 55 of their last 57 at the RU Tennis Courts, the Highlanders will open their home state against 2012 Ohio Valley Champion Eastern Kentucky on March 2.

Also highlighting this year's campaign is a six-match Spring Break trip through the Lonestar State, which will include matches against Lamar (3/10), Southern Methodist (3/12), UT Arlington (3/13), Rice (3/15), Nebraska (3/16) and Texas A&M Corpus Christi (3/17).

“Our spring break trip to Texas provides us with the opportunity to play several teams we have not played previously, some of whom will be nationally ranked.”

The Highlanders return home for a March 22 dual against Dartmouth, which finished 2012 ranked just inside the Top-50. Radford's match with the Big Green will begin a stretch of four contests in as many days, including trips to league rivals UNC Asheville, and Winthrop, as well as South Carolina State.

Radford will conclude March with a home dual against 2012 Big South runner-up Presbyterian, before traveling to Harrisonburg to face in-state rival James Madison on April 3.

“Along with hosting Dartmouth for the first time, we will also welcome Big South newcomer Longwood to the RU Tennis Courts,” Anderson said.

After playing 17 of their first 20 away from Radford, the Highlanders will cap off the regular season with four straight home matches. Radford will take on Liberty April 6, before entertaining Longwood (4/12), Gardner-Webb (4/13) and George Washington (4/14) the following weekend.

Attempting to win its third straight and sixth conference title in the last seven years, Radford will head to Rock Hill, S.C., April 18-20 for the 2013 Big South Men's Tennis Championships.
