BREDIGER SCORCHES KIAWAH WITH 69 TO LEAD MEN’S GOLF IN FIRST ROUND

 

ROUND 1

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. –
Freshman Nick Brediger carded a 3-under-par 69 and is tied for the lead in guiding Radford men's golf during Sunday's opening round of the Wendy's Kiawah Classic played at Kiawah Island Resort's Turtle Point Golf Course (par 72, 7,061 yards).
 
Three Highlanders are in the top 17 of the individual standings, which propelled Radford to a 3-over-par 291. RU is second in the team chase, eight shots behind 33rd-ranked South Carolina. The Gamecocks recorded a 5-under-par 283. Presbyterian College, Charleston Southern and Marquette are tied for third at 4-over-par 292. Towson (295), Winthrop (295), USC Upstate (297), Western Kentucky (299) and Missouri (299) round out the top 10.
 
Brediger chalked up four birdies in a nine-hole stretch en route to his best round of the season. The Roanoke, Va. native and South Carolina's Will Starke enter Monday's second round with a one-shot lead over Charleston Southern's David Denlinger, South Carolina's Ben Dietrich and Marquette's Nick Nelson.
 
Also shooting in red figures for the Highlanders was Tanner Carbaugh, who returned a 1-under-par 71 to the clubhouse and is tied for sixth. Ryan Rettberg is tied for 17th at 1-over-par 73. Conner Hayden carded a team-best five birdies to tie for 61st at 6-over-par 78. Callum Tarren is tied for 87th after firing an 82.

Monday's second round begins at 9:25 a.m. off the 10th tee for Radford. The Highlanders will be playing with South Carolina and Charleston Southern. Live scoring will be provided by Golfstat.
