MEN’S GOLF OPENS IN 15TH AT WEXFORD INTERCOLLEGIATE

ROUND 1

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Radford men's golf team carded a 312 in the opening round of the Wexford Intercollegiate and enters the final day in 15th place. The tournament is being played at the par 72, 6,828-yard Wexford Plantation.

Due to a frost delay Monday morning, the start of the first round was pushed back one hour. Each squad has approximately five holes left in round two, which will be finished Tuesday morning before proceeding to the final round of play.

Out in front for the Highlanders is 131st-ranked Weston Eklund, who fired a 2-over-par 74 in his first round and is tied for 18th. Matt Harman logged a 5-over-par 77 and is tied for 39th, while Ryan Rettberg returned an 80 to the clubhouse and is tied for 68th.

Tied for 74th is Callum Tarren after an 81 on his opening 18 and Conner Hayden is tied for 80th following an 82.

Paced by Kenneth Svanum's 2-under-par 70, host Francis Marion holds a one-stroke lead over Richmond in the team standings. The Patriots carded a 3-over-par 291, while the Spiders brought home a 4-over-par 292.

Georgia Southern (296) is third, followed by South Florida (297), defending tournament champion Georgia State (298), Davidson College and Presbyterian College (299), and Samford (301). Ohio and DePaul are tied for 10th at 304.

Campbell occupies 11th place with a 307 tally, followed by Elon (309), Connecticut and USC Aiken (310), Radford (312), Western Carolina and William & Mary (313), and Dayton (314).

Trey Valentine of South Florida set the pace through 18 holes, shooting a 3-under-par 69. Svanum, Western Carolina's J.T. Poston and Richmond's David Walker all lurk one shot behind after recording a 2-under-par 70.

The completion of round two and the final round is slated for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
