EKLUND RECORDS FOURTH TOP-10, RADFORD FINISHES 12TH AT HILTON HEAD

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Sparked by Weston Eklund's eighth sub-par round of the season, the Radford men's golf team rallied in the final two rounds of play to place 12th at the Wexford Intercollegiate being played at the par 72, 6,828-yard Wexford Plantation.

Putting together his fourth top-10 showing in five starts, Eklund returned a 3-under-par 69 to the clubhouse for the Highlanders to tie for ninth in the 90-player field at 220 (74-77-69). The Charlottesville, Va. native entered the tournament as the 131st-ranked golfer in the nation according to Golfstat.

Matt Harman tied for 33rd at 228 (77-73-78) and Callum Tarren tied for 53rd at 235 (81-75-79). Conner Hayden (82-79-81) and Ryan Rettberg (80-82-80) finished in a tie for 77th at 242.

Entering the day in 15th position, Radford was able to rebound with a 304 in the second round and a 306 in the final round to slide up three spots in the team standings.

Georgia Southern was the big mover of the day, carding the best 18-hole ledger of the second round (290) and tying for the best round on the final 18 (293) to finish at 879 (296-290-293). The Eagles' comeback led to their eight-shot victory over runner-up Francis Marion, which posted an 887 (291-300-296).

Overnight leader Trey Valentine of South Florida fired a 2-under-par 70 in the final round to hold off a late charge by Georgia Southern's Scott Wolfes and Western Carolina's J.T. Poston. Valentines' three-round 212 ledger was two strokes better than Wolfes and Poston.

Next up for the Highlanders is the Davidson Intercollegiate held at River Run Country Club March 4-5.
