Freshman pitcher Rachael Walters hails from Powhatan, Va. and will wear No. 25 during her rookie campaign.

The 2011 Region A Pitcher of the Year, garnered first team all-state honors as a junior and was also a two-time district pitcher of the year (2010 & 2011). During the 2011 season, Walters 19-2 with 0.49 ERA and 196 punchouts. Rachael's twin sister Chelsea is also a freshman at Radford University.

Radford opens the season on the road when it travels to Chapel Hill, N.C. on Feb. 13 for a twinbill at No. 21/22 North Carolina. First pitch is schedule for 4:00 p.m.

What is it like working with Coach Johnson and the coaching staff?
It's awesome! I am so happy that they hired Coach P to be our pitching coach. With just a couple months of working with her I can tell that all of the pitchers have improved tremendously! 

What are the team goals for this season?
We have many team goals, but the most important one right now is to win the Big South! 
 
What is your first softball memory?
I thought I was the coolest 7 year old catcher in all of Powhatan County…That obviously didn't work out.

Do you have any hobbies?
I took cosmetology for two years in High School, so I really enjoy coloring and highlighting people's hair!

What did you want to grow-up to be when you were a kid?
A Pink Power- Ranger…but hey, it's still a possibility.

What is your favorite TV Show?
The Vampire Diaries!!

What is your favorite music artist?
Currently I really enjoy listening to The Lumineers and Florence and the Machine.

What is your favorite restaurant in the Radford/New River Valley area?
Sakura
