TARREN, MEN’S GOLF LEAD THROUGH 36 HOLES OF BASH AT THE BEACH

ROUND 2  |  INDIVIDUAL

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. –
The Radford men's golf team turned up the temperature in the Palmetto State on Monday by burning up The Surf Golf and Beach Club with a 10-under 274 in the second round of the Bash at the Beach hosted by Appalachian State at the George Cobb-designed layout.

Behind four sub-par rounds, the Highlanders recorded one of the lowest rounds shot in program history. Adding in its 3-under 281 fired in the opening round, Radford extended its lead to 10 shots over Jacksonville. The Highlanders have a two-day ledger of 555 (281-274), while the Dolphins are at 565 (284-281).

Carding the second-best round of the day (279), Western Kentucky moved into third at 574 (295-279). Led by first-round leader McKay Tye, High Point remains in fourth at 582 (288-294). The Panthers are one shot ahead of James Madison, which has a two-round scorecard of 583 (286-297).

Overtaking Tye for the overnight lead heading into Tuesday's final round was RU's Callum Tarren. The junior logged his fourth sub-par round of the season by returning a 4-under 67 to the clubhouse. Factoring in his opening-round 68, Tarren's two-day total of 135 tops the individual standings by one over Tye, who stands at 136 (65-71).

Tied for the top mark in par-4 scoring at 7-under, Tarren's 36-hole scorecard is one shy of his career-best of 134 shot at the Joe Agee Invitational last fall. The junior carried the overnight lead at that tournament as well.

Making one of the biggest moves of the second round was Weston Eklund. The redshirt senior shaved four strokes off his first-round 71 with a 4-under 67 to surge into third place at 138, three behind Tarren. For Eklund, his round marked as the ninth time he dipped into red figures this season.

Conner Hayden is tied for fourth following his season-best 36-hole ledger of 139 (69-70). The freshman, who has played the par 3s in 1-under-par, has four sub-par rounds to his credit.

Tanner Carbaugh improved four spots by moving into 16th place at 1-over 143 (73-70). His second-round 1-under 70 ties for his career-best round in relation to par. The sophomore's nine birdies are tied for third-best in the 66-player field.

Looking for his first top-25 finish of his career, Matt Harman carved out an even-par 71 on the second day to move into a tie for 25th at 146 (75-71).

Paired with Jacksonville and Western Kentucky, Radford will be gunning for its first team title of the season when it tees off Tuesday at 9:00 a.m.
