MEN’S GOLF HOISTS BASH AT THE BEACH TITLE

ROUND 3  |  INDIVIDUAL

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. –
Behind three top-10 performances, the Radford men's golf team won its first tournament in over five years by topping the Bash at the Beach leaderboard following Tuesday's final round at the George Cobb-designed The Surf Golf and Beach Club.

In one of the most difficult sports to win a team title, the Highlanders proved they were up for the challenge as they won for the first time since the Charleston Southern Fall Invitational (Oct. 22-23, 2007). RU finished with a three-day 7-under 845 (281-274-290) to post a five-shot victory over runner-up Jacksonville.

The Dolphins recorded a 2-under 850 (284-281-285), which was eight shots better than third-place James Madison. The Dukes made the biggest charge on Tuesday by firing the second-best round of the tournament, a 9-under 275. JMU finished at 858 (286-297-275).

A pair of Dukes finished first and second in the individual standings, led by Rich Leeper's medalist-winning 9-under 204 (67-72-65). His tournament-best tally was one swing clear of teammate Trey Smith, who posted a 205 (69-70-66).

However, the day belonged to the Highlanders as they had three golfers set 54-hole personal-best marks. Leading the pack was Callum Tarren, who posted his third top-10 showing of the season by placing third at 7-under 206 (68-67-71). The junior's scorecard was one shot better than his previous career-best total of 207 set at the Joe Agee Invitational, where he finished runner-up.

Five shots behind was Weston Eklund, who logged a 2-under 211 (71-67-73) to finish sixth. En route to his fifth top-10 showing of the season, Eklund finished in red figures for the fourth tournament this season.

Conner Hayden smashed his previous season-best 54-hole standard by seven shots to tie for seventh at 1-under 212 (69-70-73). In addition to his collegiate-best finish, the freshman has five sub-par rounds through seven tournaments.

Also recording a 54-hole personal-best ledger was Tanner Carbaugh, who tied for 18th at 3-over 216 (73-70-73). Matt Harman finished 33rd in the 66-player field with an 8-over 221 (75-71-75).

Radford will be gunning for its second triumph of the season when the Highlanders head to Williamsburg, Va. for the C&F Bank Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary at the luxurious Kingsmill Resort River Course. The three-day tournament gets underway March 24.
