MEN’S TENNIS STUMBLES AT UNC ASHEVILLE, 5-2

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville won three of the final four singles matches to secure a 5-2 Big South men's tennis victory over Radford Saturday afternoon at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.

Despite Nicholas Sayer and Thomas Dehaen taking an 8-4 win over Matt Waissen and Adrien Langeard, the Highlanders (3-9, 0-3 Big South) dropped the doubles point.

Sayer quickly took care of business on court three by overpowering Daniel Kripak (6-0, 6-3) to even the match at 1-all. The Bulldogs (8-5, 2-2 Big South) answered with victories at the first and the fourth positions to establish a 3-1 advantage.

Stijn Meulemans kept UNCA from closing out the dual by prevailing 6-3, 6-7, 6-1 over Waissen on court two to extend his team-best seven-match winning streak. The junior improved to 7-2 on the season and 2-1 in conference action.

The Bulldogs claimed the deciding point at No. 5 singles when John Schubel downed Joe Mills (6-2, 6-4).

Radford is scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. league battle at Winthrop on Sunday, March 24. The match features two squads that have combined for the last nine Big South titles.
