MEN’S GOLF CHARTS SIXTH TOP-10 AT C&F BANK INTERCOLLEGIATE

ROUND 1  |  INDIVIDUAL

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. –
Radford men's golf used steady play in soggy conditions Tuesday to fire a 295 in the lone round of the 36th annual C&F Bank Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary at the par 70, 6,765-yard Kingsmill Resort River Course.

The Highlanders finished 10 shots behind tournament champion and 27th-ranked Tennessee. The Volunteers' 5-over-par 285 was two swings clear of 16th-ranked Florida State (287) and Michigan (287). Eastern Michigan tallied a 288, followed by host William & Mary (289), Notre Dame (289), Toledo (290), James Madison (292) and Loyola (Md.) (294).

One stroke behind the Greyhounds was RU, which placed 10th to record its sixth top-10 showing of the season. The Highlanders were one swing clear of 97th-ranked Richmond (296) and UNC Greensboro (296).

Originally scheduled as a three-day, 54-hole outing, snow forced tournament officials to reduce the event to a single, 18-hole round. Half of the 31-team field completed their rounds before the adverse conditions struck the region Sunday afternoon.

Unfortunately, the Highlanders were in the afternoon wave and played in tougher conditions than the morning groups, which included eight of the nine teams that finished ahead of RU.

Ranked 219th in the individual standings by Golfstat entering the tournament, Weston Eklund guided the Highlanders once again with a 2-over-par 72. The Charlottesville, Va. native ended the day with a birdie at the course's signature hole, the par-4 18th, to tie for 22nd.

Tanner Carbaugh, who tied for the most pars recorded in the event with 15, finished in a tie for 25th at 3-over-par 73. One stroke behind the sophomore was Callum Tarren and Conner Hayden. The duo logged 5-over-par 75s to tie for 58th. Matt Harman tied for 79th with a 6-over-par 76.

Eastern Michigan's Casey Olsen and Notre Dame's Cory Sciupider topped the individual leaderboard as they returned 3-under-par 67s to the clubhouse. One shot behind was William & Mary's Alex Hicks and Notre Dame's Andrew Lane, who tied for third in the 158-player field

Radford will return to the tee in three weeks for the Coca-Cola Invitational hosted by Wofford at The Country Club of Spartanburg. The two-day, 54-hole event gets underway Monday, April 15.
