MEN’S GOLF TIED FOR FIFTH AFTER ROUND ONE OF DAVIDSON INVITATIONAL

DAVIDSON, N.C. –
Radford men's golf opened play Monday afternoon at the Davidson College Invitational with a 307 and is tied for fifth following 18 holes at the par 72, 7,208-yard River Run Country Club.

Led by Sam Echikson's 1-over 73, Davidson posted an opening-round 297 to give the Wildcats the overnight lead. Davidson enters the final round one ahead of Marshall (298) and three clear of Gardner-Webb (300). James Madison is alone in fourth following a 306, while Radford and Campbell are tied for fifth (307), 10 strokes off the pace.

Marshall's Nathan Kerns holds the top spot on the individual leaderboard after posting the day's only sub-par round—a 1-under 71. Steve Jones (Gardner-Webb), Jared Carver (Campbell) and Cory Taylor (Wofford) are currently tied for second at even par.
 
Matt Harman is within striking distance of recording his second-career Top-10 as he enters the final round tied for 11th at 3-over 75. One shot behind Harman is fellow junior Callum Tarren, who posted a 4-over 76.
 
Conner Hayden and Tanner Carbaugh are tied for 29th at 6-over 78, while Weston Eklund is tied for 32nd at 7-over 79.
 
Through its five tournaments played this season, Radford has three Top-10 performances and has two golfers (Weston Eklund and Callum Tarren) ranked in the Top-4 of the Big South based on stroke averages. Eklund is the 153rd-ranked golfer in the nation according to Golfstat.
 
RU and the rest of the 11-team field will tee off at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday for the final round.
