
MEN’S GOLF NOTCHES FIFTH TOP-5 AT COCA-COLA INVITATIONAL

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Entering the day in fourth place, the Radford men's golf team fired a 2-over-par 290 to move up to third following Tuesday's final round of the Coca-Cola Invitational hosted by Wofford College at The Country Club of Spartanburg (par 72, 6,648 yards).
Radford's 54-hole, 3-under-par 861 (290-281-290) was enough to nip Appalachian State, which entered the day in third. The Mountaineers carded a 2-under-par 862 (287-281-294). RU finished eight shots behind tournament champion East Tennessee State. The Buccaneers returned an 11-under-par 853 (285-280-288) to the clubhouse to edge Wofford by two.
Despite finishing fourth, App State did have the medalist in Caleb Keck. The Mountaineer fired a 7-under-par 209 (67-70-72) to edge the Terriers' Charles Moore by a swing.
Fueling the Highlanders' charge was sophomore Tanner Carbaugh, who carded a career-best, 2-under-par 214 (73-68-73) to tie for ninth (his best collegiate finish). The Eggleston, Va. native tied for fourth in par-4 scoring at 1-over-par.
Redshirt senior Weston Eklund and junior Callum Tarren tied for 20th at 2-over-par 218. Eklund tallied an even-par 72, while Tarren logged a 1-under-par 71 in the final round. Tarren recorded 12 birdies over 54 holes to tie for seventh in the field in that category. In addition, he tied for third in par-5 scoring at 9-under-par.
Freshman Conner Hayden returned a 4-over-par 220 (76-70-74) to the clubhouse to tie for 34th, while junior Matt Harman tied for 40th at 5-over-par 221 (73-70-78).
RU, which notched its fifth top-5 of the season, turns its attention to the Big South Men's Golf Championship, which begins Sunday, April 21. The three-day, 54-hole event will be held at The Patriot Club in Greenwood, S.C.
