MEN’S GOLF PLACES FOURTH AT BSC CHAMPIONSHIP

NINETY SIX, S.C. – Saving its best performance for the final round, Radford knocked 10 shots off its second round to post a 296 Tuesday and place fourth at the Big South Men's Golf Championship. The three-day, 54-hole event was contested at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor (par 72, 7,120 yards).

52nd-ranked Coastal Carolina held on to claim its 14th Big South tournament title by two shots over 39th-ranked Liberty. The Flames made a furious rally at the end, and eventually took the lead, but the Chanticleers made the final statement to pull off the win.

Liberty was able to make its run behind individual champion Mathieu Fenasse, who returned a 5-under-par 211 (75-70-66) to the clubhouse to top the 50-player field. The sophomore recorded 15 birdies over his 54 holes to edge Coastal Carolina's Sebastian Soderberg by three shots.

Winthrop finished third at 891 (299-294-298), 15 shots clear of the Highlanders. RU's 906 (304-306-296) was eight swings ahead of fifth-place Charleston Southern. Radford's fourth-place showing is its best finish since placing third in 2008.

Junior Matt Harman and freshman Conner Hayden were the top performers for the Highlanders, tying for 22nd. Harman charted two birdies Tuesday on his way to a 2-over-par 74. He finished at 229 (77-78-74).

Hayden made a splash in his debut at the conference tournament, carding a 229 (74-78-77). The Chilhowie, Va. native finished with six birdies over his three days.

Junior Callum Tarren and sophomore Tanner Carbaugh tied for 25th at 230. Tarren recorded Radford's lone sub-par round of 2-under-par 70 in his final 18. Carbaugh shot rounds of 76, 75 and 79 to match his teammate.

Redshirt senior Weston Eklund tallied 12 pars en route to a 3-over-par 75 in his final round. The Charlottesville, Va. native's 235 (77-83-75) was 38th in the field.

He entered the tournament ranked 230th in the Golfstat individual rankings. The top 250 golfers in the nation earn at-large bids to the NCAA Men's Golf Regionals, May 16-18, at six select locations around the country.

Despite the graduation of Eklund, the Highlanders welcome back seven golfers to their lineup in the fall. In addition, Radford has two local standouts signed in Korey Watts and Nick Brediger.
