RADFORD, Va. – The Radford University track and field team will be sending three student-athletes to the 2013 NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round. Senior Curtis Hodge and sophomores Vincent Wyatt and Joseph Betts will be competing for a chance to qualify for the NCAA Division I National Championships.
“These three young men have worked hard all year so now it is time to go out and have some fun,” said head coach Brent Chumbley. “All three have a fair chance to advance to finals in Eugene [Oregon].”
Wyatt currently holds the ninth fastest time in the East Region at 13.79 seconds in the 110m hurdles. He set that school-record time three weeks ago at the Bob Pollock Invitational. That was the fifth time this season Wyatt ran under 14 seconds after recording a season-best of 14.01 seconds last spring. Currently Wyatt holds every top-10 time in the 110m hurdles at Radford, including eight that were set this spring.
Wyatt has five top-5 finishes this outdoor season, including three first places and one second place finish.
Hodge heads into the men's hammer throw ranking 42nd in the East Region after tying his personal-record with a distance of 58.83m, which he achieved in the first meet of the outdoor season at Wake Forest. Hodge has three tosses over 58.00m this spring, including his last performance at the Virginia Challenge, where he took first with a toss of 58.10m.
This season, Hodge has seven top-10 marks in seven meets, including one first place and two second place finishes.
Betts currently ranks 43rd in the 200m dash in the East Region with a school- and personal-record time of 20.99 seconds. Betts currently holds four of the top-10 times in the 200m dash at Radford, and three of those times were set this outdoor season.
This spring, Betts has five top-10 finishes that, including two first place and one second place tally.
The NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round kicks off Thursday, May 23 and concludes Saturday, May 25. All events will be held at Aggie Stadium on the campus of North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C.
