MEN’S GOLF REVEALS 2013-14 SCHEDULE

2013-14 SCHEDULE

RADFORD, Va. –
Radford head coach Mike Grant unveiled his 2013-14 men's golf tournament slate Tuesday morning. The Highlanders are coming off a solid 2012-13 campaign where they accumulated a school-record 106 wins.

In addition to those wins, Radford landed its 12th all-conference men's golfer, the Big South Freshman of the Year, the team's first team title since October 2007 and a team scoring average of 294.7.

"Last season was no doubt a successful one for our program," Grant said. "As I look at those returning for us this season, we have a great group. With a challenging schedule and the experience of our returners, we should be well prepared for the conference championship in April."

For the sixth straight year, Radford opens its season in the Palmetto State at the SpringHill Suites Intercollegiate hosted by Francis Marion University, Sept. 9-10, at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, S.C.

Two weeks later, the Highlanders travel to Hermitage Country Club in Manakin-Sabot, Va. for the Golf Galaxy VCU Shootout. A new addition to the schedule, the ninth edition of the tournament welcomes defending champion Virginia Tech, Iowa State, Maryland, Richmond, UNC Greensboro, Old Dominion, James Madison, George Mason, George Washington and Central Connecticut State, along with the Highlanders and the host Rams.

An 18-hole Big South tri-match between High Point, Gardner-Webb and RU takes place Oct. 5 at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C. The squad travels to the North Carolina coast Oct. 20-22 for the ODU / OBX Invitational at Kilmarlic Golf Club in Powells Point, N.C.

Radford continues down the coast for its next tournament, the Wendy's Kiawah Classic hosted by Charleston Southern, to conclude fall competition.

Francis Marion's Wexford Intercollegiate tees off the spring slate for the Highlanders, Feb. 17-18, at Wexford Plantation in Hilton Head, S.C. Radford returns to the Davidson Invitational at River Run Country Club, March 3-4, in Davidson, N.C.

One week later, the Highlanders look to defend their team title at the Bash at the Beach in North Myrtle Beach, S.C. RU finished at 7-under-par 845 (281-274-290) to post a five-shot victory over runner-up Jacksonville last season.

William & Mary's C&F Bank Intercollegiate in Williamsburg, Va. is up next for the Highlanders. The Kingsmill Resort's River Course will once again host the tournament over March 23-25. Radford heads to Wofford's Coca-Cola Invitational in Spartanburg, S.C., Apr. 14-15, for the squad's final tuneup before the conference tournament.

The Highlanders make their second trip of the season to Ninety Six, S.C. when they tee off in the Big South Championship. RU finished fourth last season, which was its best showing since a third-place performance in 2008.
