RADFORD, Va. – The Radford men's and women's cross country teams make the short trek to Buena Vista, Va. for Saturday's Big South Preview at the Vista Links Golf Course.
Â
The event serves as the first look at the course conference runners will face when the Big South Championships returns Nov. 2. Action commences with the men's 8K at 10 a.m., followed by the women's 5K at 10:45 a.m.
Â
Joining the Highlanders at the meet are host VMI, Liberty, Coastal Carolina, UNC Asheville, High Point, Longwood, Campbell and Charleston Southern. The only non-Big South program on the entry list is Division II affiliate Tusculum College out of Greeneville, Tenn.
Â
Behind Ryan Farnan's second-place showing, the men's squad is coming off a third-place performance at last weekend's Asheville Cross Country Carnival.
Â
On the women's side, Emily Marshall led the charge by placing 12th with a personal-best 5K time of 19:21. As a team, the Highlanders finished fifth.
Â
"We are excited for Saturday's opportunity to preview the course for the Big South Championships," cross country coach Mackenzie Wartenberger said. "VMI has built a challenging course. Our focus for both the men and the women is to get a sense of what to expect in November, and what we need to do over the next month to capitalize on our strengths. We are coming off an excellent showing by the men and the women at the Asheville Cross Country Carnival. I know the Highlanders are looking forward to racing as a team and testing themselves against a tough course and quality competition."
