BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Radford women's tennis team notched two wins each in singles and doubles to conclude play Sunday at the Hokie Fall Invitational hosted by Virginia Tech at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
Grace Sarver improved her singles record to 5-2 this fall by defeating Liberty's Cameron Richard in three sets (3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (9-7)) in Flight B action. She later teamed with Meg Napolitano to prevail in a doubles battle with the Flames' Valerie Thong and Annisha Domenech. The Highlander tandem has a team-best 4-2 mark through two tournaments.
The other singles triumph came from the racket of Allison Michael in Flight C. Moving to 3-2 on the season, the sophomore downed Frances Peyton of Virginia Tech in straight sets (6-2, 6-2).
Radford's final victory came in Flight A doubles when Gemma Valls and Taylor Newman combined for a thrilling 8-7 decision over Liberty's duo of Brittany Yang and Mariely Hassey. The tandem is now 2-2 overall in doubles action.
Following nearly three weeks of practice, the Highlanders will return to competition Oct. 18-22 for the ITA Atlantic Regional hosted by the University of Virginia at Sheridan Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville, Va.
