RADFORD POSTS SHUTOUT VICTORY AT ASHEVILLE

|

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Radford (5-2-2, 2-0-0) recorded its Big South-leading fourth shutout of the season, and Kieran Roberts scored his fifth goal in three games and third straight game-winner in a 1-0 victory at UNC Asheville (1-5-1, 0-2-0) on Wednesday evening. The Highlanders won their third straight game and extended the league's longest unbeaten streak to seven games (5-0-2).

Roberts, the reigning Big South Attacking Player of the Week, took a feed from Neil Martorana in the 33rd minute and blasted it throught the hands of Asheville's keeper to notch the game's lone goal. RU dominated possession limiting the Bulldogs to four total shots and just two on frame. Aitor Pouseu Blanco netted his fourth career shutout in just nine games. He dropped his conference best goals against average to 0.74.

"We knew this was going to be a tough, tight contest against a very solid and well-coached Asheville team," Radford head coach Marc Reeves said. "I thought we had some strong performances in key roles and did the details required to earn maximum points on the road."

Radford held an advantage in every statistical category. The Highlanders outshot UNCA 15-4 and 8-4 on goal, plus earned six corner opportunities to two for the Bulldogs.

"Obviously, with the number of chances we created, you would like to see us score more," Reeves said. "But the result is the only stat that matters on a day like today."

The Highlanders return home Saturday to Cupp Stadium to face rival Liberty at 6:00 p.m.

"We again face an opponent who will have had significantly greater prep time, recovery, and training than we will get before Saturday night," Reeves said. "I believe this group values the recovery process and will maximize the prep time we do have. Liberty is a very good team and this will be a real battle for points."
