
FIVE HIGHLANDERS SET TO COMPETE AT ITA ATLANTIC REGIONAL

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's tennis team will have five of its own representing the Red and White at the ITA Atlantic Regional, which begins Friday (Oct. 17) and runs through Tuesday (Oct. 21). Virginia Tech will be hosting the tournament at Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg.
Competitors from 23 schools are entered for the event: Virginia, Virginia Tech, Radford, Penn State, Maryland, James Madison, Richmond, William & Mary, Pittsburgh, Georgetown, Liberty, VCU, Temple, UMBC, Navy, Old Dominion, George Washington, St. Joseph's, Longwood, Duquesne, Delaware, Marshall and Norfolk State.
Natalie Sayer, Taylor Newman, Gemma Valls, Grace Sarver and Meg Napolitano are scheduled to compete for the Highlanders. Friday will feature two rounds of qualifying singles and one round of doubles.
Newman and Valls go out first for RU in Friday morning's qualifying singles draw. Newman is matched up with Spencer Caravaggio of Duquesne at 9 a.m. The winner advances to play another qualifying singles match at 11:30 a.m.
Valls is on the opposite side of the qualifying draw. She will face Monet Willis of Temple at 10 a.m., with the victor moving on to a 12:30 p.m. match for the right to qualify for the main draw.
Sayer is already in the main draw and will not play her round of 64 match until Saturday morning. The freshman will clash with Maryland's Welma Luus.
In doubles, Sarver and Napolitano drew Danea Jonjic and Arielle Shuren of Delaware in Friday's round of 32. Their match is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m. On the other side of the draw, Sayer and Valls will pair up for the first time this year to take on George Washington's Grace Egger and Teodora Radosavljevic at 4 p.m.
