HIGHLANDERS GRIND OUT FOUR-SET DECISION AT UNC ASHEVILLE

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Radford's first Big South volleyball victory of the season was not an easy one as the Highlanders had to stage late rallies in each of the final three sets to prevail (18-25, 25-17, 26-24, 27-25) over UNC Asheville Friday night at the Justice Center.

After struggling in the opening set, the Highlanders (11-6, 1-1 Big South) regained their composure to hit above .200 in the final three sets. They finished at a .201 attack clip for the match, while holding the Bulldogs (3-14) to a .162 accuracy.

Radford had a 20-kill advantage (62-42) on UNC Asheville. The Highlanders' 62 kills were the most in a four-set match this season. Rachel Wiechecki notched her 11th double-double of the year with 18 kills and 18 digs, while Jena Braden joined the double-double party with her 49 assists and 12 digs.

Rounding out the offensive leaders were Maddie Palmer and Emma Deininger, who contributed 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Savanna Burton (13) and Kelby Jackson (11) accompanied Wiechecki and Braden with double-digit digs.

Christine Lakatos led three Bulldogs in double figures, offensively. She ripped 11 kills, while Shelby Erickson and Catherine Fischer tallied 10 apiece. Lakatos was also a force on the defensive side, delivering 12 digs and a match-high six blocks. As a team, UNC Asheville racked up 12.5 blocks on the night. Bryn Pfieffer dialed up a match-high 24 digs in the back row.

RU is back in action Saturday at 5 p.m. when it takes the court against Gardner-Webb inside Paul Porter Arena in Boiling Springs, N.C.
