RADFORD OUTLASTS AGGIES, 65-57 IN CORPUS CHRISTI COASTAL CLASSIC

|

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Radford closed the final 6:20 of Friday's game vs. North Carolina A&T (1-5) on an 11-4 run to pull away and defeat the Aggies, 65-57, in the opening game of the upper division tournament at the American Bank Center. Javonte Green scored all of his 14 points in the second half as the Highlanders evened their record on the season (3-3). Green also had eight rebounds and two blocks.

Despite matching a season high with 14 turnovers, the RU offense found its rhythm with solid guard play as the Highlanders shot above 45 percent from the field (45.7) for just the second time this season. As a team, Radford dished out 15 assists on 21 made baskets, including five dimes from Rashun Davis to go along with his 10 points.

"Our guards played like veteran guards today," Radford head coach Mike Jones said. "We knew what we were looking for and executed. When it wasn't there we didn't force it. They made good decisions."

R.J. Price broke out of his shooting slump to knock down four from behind the arc and finish with 14 points. In all, the Highlanders hit nine treys on 21 tries. RU won the battle on the glass as well (35-34) led by Brandon Holcomb's game-high nine caroms. He also chipped in nine points.

Neither team was able to build more than a five point lead until the Highlanders made their run late. North Carolina A&T was led by Austin Williams and Khary Doby, who both finished with 14 points. Williams added eight rebounds, three assists, and four steals.

The win was the first-ever for Radford in the state of Texas and moved RU to 8-13 all-time in games played west of the Mississippi River. Radford is 5-5 in neutral site games under Jones.

Radford will face the winner of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Mississippi Valley State in Saturday's division championship at 2:00 p.m. (ET).
