MEN’S GOLF TIES FOR LOWEST ROUND OF THE DAY AT KIAWAH

ROUND 2

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. –
On the strength of a 1-over-par 289, the Radford men's golf team moved into a tie for eighth place following Monday's second round of the Wendy's Kiawah Classic hosted by Charleston Southern at Turtle Point Golf Course (par 72, 7,061 yards).

The Highlanders' 289 tied for the lowest round of the day with Georgia Southern, which allowed them to climb four spots on the team leaderboard. Winthrop remains on top with its 583 (288-295), four strokes clear of Missouri's 587 (289-298). Jacksonville State, GRU Augusta and Georgia Southern are all tied for third at 590. Presbyterian College is sixth at 591, one shot ahead of Richmond (592). Radford is in a three-way tie with Marquette and Charleston Southern for eighth at 593.

On a day where a large portion of the field struggled, Conner Hayden carded his second sub-par round of the season by signing for a 2-under-par 70. He was one of just 13 golfers in the 108-golfer field to shoot under-par for the second round. Hayden was steady throughout, recording two birdies and an impressive 16 pars. With 18 holes to go, the junior is tied for sixth at 144 (74-70).

Tanner Carbaugh logged 14 pars on his Monday scorecard, but was unable to deliver any birdies en route to a 76. His 36-hole ledger of 149 is tied for 30th. Par-3 scoring continues to be Carbaugh's strength, as he is tied for second in the field at 2-under-par.

Like Hayden, Callum Cochrane kept a clean scorecard as well. The freshman posted 16 pars, one birdie and one bogey on his way to an even-par 72. He is tied for 43rd at 151 through 36 holes.

One stroke behind and in a tie for 50th is Nick Brediger, who returned a 74 to the clubhouse Monday. Brediger had the flat stick going as he rolled in a team-best five birdies in his second round. Making a big move for the Highlanders was Ryan Rettberg, who trimmed seven shots off his opening round to post a 73. He enters the final round tied for 56th at 153.

Tomasz Anderson of Jacksonville State has a 1-shot advantage over Jake Ezell of Charleston Southern and Zach Seabolt of Winthrop in the individual race.

Tuesday's final round gets underway at 8 a.m. off the first and 10th holes.
