WILLIAMS EARNS WOMEN’S INDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Radford's Shania Williams has been named the Big South Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week following her performance at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational last week at Liberty. Conference officials made the announcement Thursday afternoon.

"It was a great start to her season," director of Radford track and field/cross country said about his freshman's opening performance in Lynchburg. "However, she is still adjusting to the collegiate level. Shania has a huge upside, and I look forward to watching her develop into the thrower I believe she can become."

Making her first collegiate appearance in the shot put, Williams showed why she is a freshman to keep an eye on in the Big South Conference. She unleashed a 45-02.50 mark to place second behind Mychelle Cumings of Liberty (competing unattached), who delivered a 49-03.50 effort.

Since Cumings competed unattached, Williams' mark is the league's top measurement in the shot put. The next closest mark is over four feet behind Williams.

The Highlanders have a long break before returning to competition, Jan. 16-17, at the Virginia Tech Invitational hosted by the Hokies inside Rector Field House in Blacksburg.
