Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

GREEN SETS CAREER REBOUNDING MARK, RU ROLLS

|

RADFORD, Va. - Fittingly, Javonte Green's tip-in putback and drawn foul with just under 19 minutes to play gave the Radford (6-4) senior standout the career record for rebounds as a Highlander, and he completed the three-point play to lead five RU players in double figures with 15 points. Radford remained unbeaten at home, 3-0, with a convincing 92-54 win Tuesday over Johnson & Wales (6-8) at the Dedmon Center.

Green played just 10 minutes in the contest and finished with four rebounds to move his career total to 847, which is now two clear of Chris Oliver's previous mark of 845. He also recorded a steal and moved to within two of tying Rod Cousin's career mark of 192.

"For a guy who only had one scholarship offer to play basketball coming out of high school, Javonte has certainly put together an amazing career," Radford head coach Mike Jones said. "He plays so hard and puts forth so much effort that it is no surprise he has been able to put up the numbers he has."

On this night, the Highlanders would put up several statistical best numbers in the blowout victory. Cameron Jones reached double figures for the first time in his Highlander career with 13. YaYa Anderson added a season-high 13 as well. R.J. Price and Kyle Noreen each scored 10 points as the Highlanders pushed five players in to double figures for the first time this season. Brandon Holcomb and Kion Brown each had a team-high seven rebounds, and Lucas Dyer tied his career mark with six caroms. Davis notched a career best five steals.

"I thought early on we were a little flat and let them stay in the game giving up some easy baskets," Jones said. "But we responded late in the first half to stretch the lead and put the game away. It was good to see some quality minutes from the guys off the bench. Lucas [Dyer] gave us good minutes, Taj [Owens] has been solid all season and was again tonight, and Cam [Jones] finally got some confidence and knocked down some shots."

As a team, the Highlanders dished out a season-high 18 assists led by Davis' seven. The speciality statistics were dominated by RU; 42-16 in the paint, 25-4 off turnovers, 15-7 second chance points, 27-2 in fastbreak points, and 41-11 in bench scoring.

The Wildcats were led by Rickey Porter's game-high 17 points and Tramain Parker's game-high eight rebounds. Parker added 12 points.

The game was the first of a five-game home stand for Radford to end the calendar year. The Highlanders host Siena on Friday at 6:00 p.m. at the Dedmon Center.
