RADFORD, Va. – Liberty knocked down 11 shots from long range and collected 50 rebounds to key a 90-46 Big South women's basketball win over Radford Thursday night at the Dedmon Center.
After High Point knocked off Winthrop in a battle for the conference regular-season championship, Liberty (18-10, 14-5 Big South) moves into second place by virtue of its two wins over the Eagles this season. Radford (7-21, 5-14 Big South) is tied with Longwood for ninth place entering Saturday's slate of games.
"That was complete domination by Liberty," head coach Mike McGuire said. "They were terrific defensively and executed their game plan offensively. Their length really shut our lanes down and limited us on the offensive end. We have to regroup and get ready for High Point."
Mickayla Sanders notched a season-high 22 points, which included a 4-for-6 performance from downtown. Katelyn Adams charted a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Big South Player of the Week Ashley Rininger chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds, while Audrey Rettstatt dropped in a season-high 10 points.
The Flames became the fifth team to tie the Dedmon Center record for most 3-pointers made in a single game (11). In addition to its rebounding favor (50-15), Liberty shot 49.1 percent from the floor (28-57).
Ayana Avery finished with a team-high 19 points, while drilling three 3-pointers to move her into a tie for second place with Patrinda Toney for the most 3-pointers made in a career (180). She also converted 4-of-5 from the charity stripe for the Highlanders.
Radford will hold its Senior Day against High Point on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Highlanders will honor their lone senior, Breshara Gordon, prior to tipoff.
