HIGHLANDERS ROUT NORTH CAROLINA A&T

BOX SCORE RADFORD, Va. - Trailing 1-0 in the fifth, Radford exploded for 15 runs over the next four innings to bury North Carolina A&T, 15-1, Monday night at RU Baseball Stadium. Tyler Swarmer (1-0) earned his first career victory going 6.0 innings and giving up just three hits and one unearned run. The Highlanders pounded out 15 hits and scored at least two runs in each of their last four at bats to push to 21-17 on the season.

Patrick Marshall delivered a two-out, two-run single in the fifth to give the Highlanders the lead, 2-1. From there, RU added two more in the inning on Hunter Higgerson's two-run single. Alexander Lee produced a five hit night with two doubles, a couple runs driven in, and another pair scored. He also made his first career mound appearance retiring the final three outs of the game and striking out his first batter.

Danny Hrbek recorded his first career three-hit night, including a double, a triple, and an RBI. Marshall finished the night 2-3. Higgerson ran his team high RBI total to 34 with three on the night. Josh Gardiner drove in a pair of runs with a double in four at bats.

The Highlander offense was boosted by nine walks and four hit batters by Aggie pitchers. Brain Poag (1-3) took the loss without giving up an earned run. He allowed seven hits and four unearned in 4.2 innings thrown.

Timothy Ravare (2-4) led the Aggie offense. Micah Carmony drove in the only run with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first.

Radford travels to East Tennessee State on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. first pitch.
