MEN’S TENNIS OVERPOWERS JAMES MADISON, 4-0

RADFORD, Va. – Radford men's tennis put together a strong performance Wednesday afternoon as the Highlanders defeated James Madison, 4-0, in a nonconference match at the Radford University Tennis Complex.

Patrick O'Keefe and Nico Ascarrunz improved to 2-0 when paired together as they prevailed, 8-4, at No. 3 doubles to get Radford (4-11) on the right track. Nicholas Sayer and Joe Mills delivered the clinching win at the second flight by taking down Alex Berdnikoff and Brett Moorhead, 8-4.

Sayer, who is nationally-ranked in singles, pushed the Highlanders' advantage to 2-0 when he beat Robert Stirling (6-2, 6-1) at the top position. At 15-9 overall, Sayer carries Radford's best individual record for the season.

Mills extended his winning streak to six straight by dispatching Maxi Branth (6-1, 6-3) at the third flight. The senior improved to 14-10 overall. O'Keefe sealed the RU victory with his 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Sebastian Salinas on court two.

Janken Thoen and Ascarrunz led their respective matches when the dual result was decided. JMU drops to 7-11 on its season.

The Highlanders are back at the Radford University Tennis Complex Thursday at 2 p.m. for a nonconference tilt against Maryland Eastern Shore.
