RETTBERG QUALIFIES FOR U.S. AMATEUR PUBLIC LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP

FREDERICK, Md. – Ryan Rettberg, a redshirt senior on the Radford men's golf team, carded back-to-back 3-under-par 69s Tuesday to win the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship qualifier at Clustered Spires Golf Club (par 72, 6,913 yards).

His 36-hole tally of 138 topped the field by four shots. The championship, which is open to amateur golfers who are members at public courses and have a USGA Handicap Index® not exceeding 4.4, will be contested at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kan. Jeff Brauer designed the par 71, 7,365-yard layout, which opened in 2006.

Rettberg will be making his second appearance at a USGA championship. He qualified for the 2011 U.S. Amateur at Erin Hills in Erin, Wis. The 2014 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship begins July 14 and concludes July 19. Three rounds of stroke play are used to narrow the field to 16 golfers who then compete in a single-elimination match play tournament.
