Radford's cross country squads will finally get their seasons underway on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014 as they travel to Boiling Springs, N.C. for the Gardner-Webb Invitational. After last week's opener at Virginia Tech was canceled due to inclement weather, the Highlanders' first meet of the season will be a preview of this year's Big South Championship course.
The women's and men's cross country squad will take the course at 9:45 a.m. for the 5K and 10:45 a.m. for the 8K, respectively. Gardner-Webb's course is a 2K loop around the campus and will be the host of the 2014 Big South Conference Championships.
"I am looking forward to taking the men's and women's squads that are ready to be competitive on a higher level than RU has seen before to Boiling Springs in November for the Big South Conference Championships," said Radford cross country coach Mackenzie Wartenberger. "This is a great chance for us to get a feel for what the championship weekend will be like," said the second-year coach.
The Highlanders will be back in action next week as they return to Blacksburg for the Virginia Tech Alumni Invite on Sept. 19, 2014.
