TRACK AND FIELD SETS SEVERAL SEASON BESTS

BLACKSBURG, Va. ---- The Radford track and field team set several season-best marks at the opening day of the Hokie Invite in Rector Fieldhouse in Blacksburg, Va., on Friday night.

Jessica Shelton improved on her mark from last week at the Virginia Tech Invite, running a 9.18 to set a new season best in the 60-meter hurdles. Shelton finished the event in 20th place.

In the 60-meter dash, Shantel Jones bettered her performance from a week ago by 0.06 seconds, crossing the line in 8.01. The time was good for a new Radford 2014 best.

Madeline Thomas represented the Red and White in the 3,000 meters to open the meet, turning in a time of 10:40.22. The performance was the fastest in the event by any Highlander this indoor season and a personal record for her.

In the mile, Teresa Williamson and Katie Hickey claimed first place in their respective heats. Williamson won the third heat, and finished 18th overall, with a time of 5:08.02. Hickey secured the fourth heat and finished one spot back of Williamson in the final rankings at 19th, running a 5:11.52.

Cara Myrtle recorded a first-place finish in the fifth heat of the 600-meter run, turning in a time of 1:40.29. Myrtle's time would give her 18th place overall. Danyelle McDaniel took third in the fifth heat and 22nd overall with a 1:41.28.

In the triple jump, Jamiecka Baker recorded a leap of 10.92m (35-10.00) to take 11th overall and second in her flight.

Denaya Wolterding, running in her first 1,000-meter race at Radford, led all Highlanders with a 3:21.83. Kylie Knudsen turned in a time of 3:36.49. Â

Reanna Hamm wrapped up the first day of action for the Highlanders in the 300-meter dash, turning a 42.10. The time is the second fastest ran by Radford this season.

The Hokie Invite will resume on Saturday with the women's pole vault and the women's 400 meters at 12:45 p.m. The 4x400-meter relay will conclude the event at around 4 p.m.
