HOW IT HAPPENED
- Freshmen Sivert Daehlie and Finn Tiedemann provided the offensive punch Radford needed for the Highlanders to escape Lynchburg, Va., with a 3-0 Big South men's soccer triumph over Liberty at Osborne Stadium, Tuesday night.
- Daehlie opened the scoring in the sixth minute when classmate Jakob Strandsäter sent a low cross into the box where the Norwegian was there to blast home his seventh goal of the season.
- He added his second goal of the match in the 55th minute when Evan Szklennik rebounded his own shot and found an open Daehlie for the tally.
- Daehlie nearly recorded a hat trick, but his attempt in the 68th minute just missed the right side of goal.
- Tiedemann provided the final strike in the 90th minute off a double assist from Sergio Arzubiaga and Taylor Martin.
- INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Daehlie scored the Highlanders' last three goals before Tiedemann tallied his sixth goal of the season.
- With his eighth goal of the season, Daehlie ties Longwood's Willy Miezan for the most goals scored by a Big South freshman this year.
- Daehlie's performance was the first multi-goal effort by a Highlander since Tiedemann found the back of the net twice against Longwood.
- Nineteen of Radford's league-leading 31 goals scored this season are by underclassmen.
- Daehlie led all Highlanders with a season-high six shots.
- Radford outshot its opponent for the 13th time this season, gaining a 16-11 advantage over the Flames.
- By assisting on Daehlie's second goal of the match, Szklennik is the Big South leader in assists (five).
- Liberty earned a 7-4 favor in corners.
- The Highlanders have won eight of their last nine outings and are only one win away from tying their total victories from last season.
- RU defeated the Flames for the third straight meeting.
- Liberty was held scoreless for the third straight game.
- Behind Aitor Pouseu Blanco's two saves, the Highlanders charted their fifth shutout of the season.
