HIGHLANDERS DRAW WITH WINTHROP IN SEASON FINALE

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's soccer team closed out its season by playing to a 1-1 draw with Winthrop Saturday night at Cupp Stadium.

Jordan Lundin tallied the goal for the Highlanders (6-11-1, 1-8-1) in the 69th minute. The sophomore found the net for the second consecutive game and tied for team-high on the season with her third.

Winthrop (5-8-3, 2-5-2) tied the game in the 90th minute on a goal by Macey Bosley that followed a free kick opportunity.

The Eagles finished the game with 22-18 shot advantage, but it was an inspired Radford squad playing on Senior Night that controlled possession for the bulk of regulation. RU outshot Winthrop 16-13 through 90 minutes and led in that department by more on several occasions.

Lundin capitalized on the good play by the Highlanders by picking up a loose ball in the middle of the field and ripping a shot from 30 yards out over the Eagles' goalkeeper and off the bottom of the cross bar for her sixth career goal.

The Radford defense kept Winthrop in check until a foul near the top of the box with just under a minute to play. Lauren Watts took the free kick and passed to the right corner of the box. Megan David sent the ball back in front and Bosley was able to deflect it in.

The Eagles controlled play in the first overtime and recorded seven shots, but Katie McCormick saved one and the Highlanders' defense was able to block away several others.

In the second extra period, both teams drew one corner kick, but could not convert. McCormick saved a header off of the Eagles' try in the 105th minute, her fourth and final stop of the game.

A total of 10 different RU players recorded shots, with Sally Dillinger and Hannah Duff each totaling three. Lundin, Asyia Mitchell and Cassidy Ratliff each had two. Radford had a 7-6 edge in corners, with half of the Eagles' attempts coming in the overtimes.

In the first half, Hannah Thomas nearly scored on a shot from the top of the box in the first half, but the Winthrop keeper was able to just tip it over the crossbar. Jane Everett then put a long shot on goal that forced a save. Jasmine Cazarez had a rebound opportunity on the play but her header was also stopped.

Seniors Dillinger, Mitchell and Thomas, along with Maddy Bisantz, Carley Keer, Sierra Merkes, Shannon Nasca, and Sammie Trone each played their final match for the Highlanders.

"I thought we played great tonight," Radford head coach Ben Sohrabi said. "We put a lot of energy into going ahead. We moved Jordan to the midfield and she scored a cracker. The seniors were great tonight and I'm just really proud of them and wish them the best going forward."
