CROSS COUNTRY DOES NOT COMPETE AT UPSTATE INVITATIONAL

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Due to course conditions, the Radford cross country teams did not compete in Saturday's Upstate Invitational. It is the third time this season that a Highlanders' meet was affected by weather.

Only 13 of the 32 entered teams elected to compete in the meet Saturday, including just four of the 10 Big South programs. The USC Upstate course will host the conference championship meet at the end of the month.

"We made the decision to come back to Radford to complete a workout rather than take the risk of racing on conditions that our coaching staff determined to be unsafe," head coach Eric Thatcher said. "Regardless of not racing, running the course for practice on Friday afternoon still helped us reach our goal to gain familiarity with the course. We look forward to applying that knowledge in four weeks."

The Highlanders will return to competition on Oct. 17 at the Cross Country Only Invitational in Mechanicsville, Va.
