
CROSS COUNTRY FINISHES SEASON AT SOUTHEAST REGIONAL

EARLYSVILLE, Va. – The Radford men's and women's cross country teams completed their seasons Friday afternoon with the NCAA Southeast Regional races held at Panorama Farms.

Sophomore Jacob Black was the top finisher for the Highlander men, while junior Courtney Rice led the way for the women.

Black finished first among Radford runners for the fourth time in five meets this season. He clocked a time of 32:42.4 in the 10K race, cutting his mark from last year by almost two and a half minutes. Black was 141st overall in a field of 223 runners.

In his final race, senior Ryan Farnan crossed the line next for RU in 32.57.9 to place 157th. Brady Guertin, Jeff Gibson and senior Harrison Murn rounded out the scoring five and were separated by just nine spots overall. Guertin finished with a time of 33:40.0, Gibson completed his first collegiate 10K in 33:48.7 and Murn followed in 34:06.6. As a team, the Highlanders improved by two spots from last year's meet, placing 29th – fourth among eight Big South teams.

Rice led Radford at the 6K distance for the second time of the season. She crossed the line in 24:00.7, edging her mark from earlier in the campaign and placing her 168th among 235 competitors.

Courtney Burton turned in a time of 24:20.2 and was followed by Sarah Riley, who clocked 24:30.9. Cailyn Lavigne was next with a time of 25:03.3 and Percie Lyons finished in 25:21.8. Radford placed 30th as a team - one spot lower than last year and fourth among seven conference schools in the meet.
"Both our men and women showed a great amount of growth and development this fall," head coach Eric Thatcher said. "The individual improvements from our regional performances a year ago help us set higher expectations for future years."
